What you stop doing

Bath Day, Minus Everything You Hate About It

Dublin is two towns that happen to share a name, and the van has a routine for each. East of Tassajara Road, in Dublin Ranch, Positano, Jordan Ranch and Wallis Ranch, the newer streets come with HOA rules, rows of townhomes and alleys too narrow for a van, so we ask for a guest space or the curb on the main loop and your gate code if there is one. West of San Ramon Road, in Silvergate and the older ranch-house streets off Amador Valley Boulevard, the driveways are plain and wide and the groomer is set up a minute after pulling in. Above it all, in Schaefer Ranch, the lots tilt toward the hills, so the flattest legal spot near your door is the one we take. In every case your dog stays home: no ride down Dublin Boulevard, no crate, no waiting. The warm water, the power and the groomer all arrive together.

No crawl on 580 or Dublin Boulevard.

The groom happens at your curb, so the drive, the drop-off and the pickup fall off your to-do list.

The four steps

Notes
  1. Step 1

    Book in Two Minutes

Pick a day, pick a time, tell us about your dog. Done. We confirm the day before.

  2. Step 2

    We Come to Your Door

Your groomer texts when they are on the way, then the van pulls up to your curb with its own warm water and power. No drive, no cages, no waiting room.

  3. Step 3

Your Dog Gets the Whole Van

One groomer, one dog, start to finish. No other dogs, no crate, no rushing. You get on with your day.

About 120 min · about 180 for large dogs
  4. Step 4

Back in Your Arms, Fresh and Dry

Clean coat, trimmed nails, clean ears, fully dry, and a tail that will not stop wagging. Both handoffs together take about five minutes.

In our example salon morning, about 2 h 30 min goes to driving, traffic and the counter. With Wow My Dog, the groom happens at your curb while you get on with your day: about 5 min of handoffs, so about 2 h 30 min back.

Once again, Jose did an unbelievably amazing job on my dog Sofie! He is so incredibly skilled at his work, and manages to get my very anxious and nervous girl comfortable enough to allow him to groom her. When he carried her back out to me, I was absolutely stunned at how good she looked. The prices are SO affordable as well! Never going anywhere else to get her groomed :) will add photos in a bit.

    Yelp

I've been using Wow! My Dog for probably over a year now to groom my two babies Willa & Ernie. I've used a few different groomers through them and they've all been really great. I was DEVASTATED to find out Angie will no longer be working with them as she was so beyond amazing while taking care of my dogs. I'll miss her SO much and wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors! Communication has always been great, and I always receive a heads up if they're running ahead or slightly behind of expected window time. My dogs also always look so cute after their grooming. Can't rave about this company enough!

Dog Life in Dublin

Real parks, real trails, and what they do to a coat. Notes from the groomer's side of the van.

Snapshot 01 · Parks

Three dog runs, a leash everywhere else

Dublin's main off-leash spot is Dougherty Hills Dog Park at Amador Valley Boulevard and Stagecoach Road, open dawn to dusk, with separate turf runs for large and small dogs, a dog drinking fountain and no restrooms. Bray Commons adds a fenced quarter-acre for small dogs under 20 pounds, and Wallis Ranch Park has its own dog park with separate large and small areas. Those are the only places in a Dublin park where a dog may be off leash; everywhere else, including Emerald Glen's 48 acres at Tassajara Road and Central Parkway, the leash stays on, and the parks themselves open at sunrise and close an hour after sunset.

Snapshot 02 · Hills

Dublin Hills from the Donlon Point staging area

Dublin Hills Regional Park is about 654 acres of ridge and canyon on the west edge of town, entered from the Donlon Point Staging Area just east of Dublin Boulevard and Marshall Canyon Drive; there is no parking on Brigadoon Way. The East Bay Regional Park District opens it at 8 a.m. and closes it between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. depending on the month. The Calaveras Ridge Trail starts near the Schaefer Ranch homes and climbs into grassland that has barely changed since the 1800s. Dogs stay on a leash within 200 feet of the staging area and wherever cattle are grazing, then may go off leash on the open ridge under voice control, with a leash ready.

Snapshot 03 · Trails

The south end of the Iron Horse Trail

The Iron Horse Regional Trail, 32 paved miles along an old railroad from Concord to the Tri-Valley, ends at the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station; the last 1.8-mile gap to Santa Rita Road was closed in 2014. It is open 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and dogs are welcome on a leash. On Dublin's own trails the city keeps the same rule, with a leash no longer than six feet and a bag in your pocket. The path runs flat past creeks and open fields, which in winter means mud to the elbows and in summer means a coat full of dry grass and dust.

Iron Horse Regional Trail, East Bay Regional Park District

Groomer's note, coat care around Dublin: Dublin dogs live between two kinds of dirt. The Dublin Hills and Iron Horse trails leave dry grass seed, foxtails and dust in feathering and between the toes through the long, hot Tri-Valley summer, and turf dog runs add a green tint and a smell of their own. A warm-water bath, a full blow-out and a thorough brush-out clears all of it and lifts the undercoat a double-coated dog sheds into the house from spring to fall. When the winter fog settles on the valley floor and the mornings turn cold, the warm water the van carries is the comfort point: the bath is warm from the first rinse, and your dog goes back inside dry.

Pre-groom checklist · Dublin
Which parts of Dublin do you cover?

All of Dublin, east and west. On the east side that means Dublin Ranch, Positano, Jordan Ranch, Wallis Ranch, Fallon Crossing, the Boulevard and the streets around Emerald Glen Park; on the west side, Silvergate, Schaefer Ranch and the ranch-house blocks off Amador Valley Boulevard and San Ramon Road. Pleasanton, San Ramon and Livermore are on the same Tri-Valley routes, so an address at the city line is no problem. Share your full address when you book and we confirm it.

We live in a townhome in Dublin Ranch with no driveway. Where does the van park?

In a guest space or at the curb on the nearest main street, whichever your HOA allows for a visitor staying about two hours. Tell us when you book where your own guests park and whether there is a gate code, and the groomer sets up there, texts you on arrival and walks to your door. The van runs on its own water and power, so it needs nothing from your home, and the groom takes about two hours, well inside any visitor limit. If your community has a rule we should know about, say so when you book and we plan around it.

Our spaniel comes home from the Dublin Hills covered in foxtails. What do you do about them?

Every groom includes a full brush-out and a close check of ears, paws, armpits and feathering, which is where foxtails from the Dublin Hills and the Iron Horse Trail lodge first. The groomer combs them out before the bath so they do not work deeper in the warm water, and tells you if one has already broken the skin, because that is a vet visit, not a grooming job. From late spring through fall a trim of the feet and feathers gives the seeds less to grab, and a visit every four to six weeks keeps the coat short enough to check at home after each walk.

Can you groom my cat at a Dublin townhome?

Yes. Cat grooming comes to every Dublin address, townhomes included: the van parks in a guest space or at the curb, you carry your cat out in a carrier, and the groomer works one-on-one in a quiet van with no dogs around. A Cat Bath is a flat $140 and a Cat Bath + Haircut a flat $180. Long-haired cats that mat through the hot valley summer do best on a regular schedule. Tell us how your cat handles being handled when you book.
