What you stop doing

Bath Day, Minus Everything You Hate About It

Pleasanton was built for a van with a wide driveway in mind. Across the valley floor, in Val Vista, Del Prado, Birdland and the Pleasanton Valley grids, the groomer backs in, levels the van and has warm water running before you have found the leash. Downtown, on the small lots behind Main Street, the spot is usually the curb out front, and we check the signs with you. In Ruby Hill, Kottinger Ranch, Laguna Oaks and the other gated streets, the gate just needs your guest code or a name at the kiosk, and the van parks in your driveway like any visitor. The point is the same everywhere: your dog never gets in a car. No crate at a salon, no waiting room, no second trip to pick up. Two hours at home, then back to the couch, clean and dry.

No crawl through the 580 and 680 interchange or along Stanley Boulevard.

The four steps

Notes
  1. Step 1

    Book in Two Minutes

Pick a day, pick a time, tell us about your dog. Done. We confirm the day before.

  2. Step 2

    We Come to Your Door

Your groomer texts when they are on the way, then the van pulls up to your curb with its own warm water and power. No drive, no cages, no waiting room.

  3. Step 3

Your Dog Gets the Whole Van

One groomer, one dog, start to finish. No other dogs, no crate, no rushing. You get on with your day.

About 120 min · about 180 for large dogs
  4. Step 4

Back in Your Arms, Fresh and Dry

Clean coat, trimmed nails, clean ears, fully dry, and a tail that will not stop wagging. Both handoffs together take about five minutes.

In our example salon morning, about 2 h 30 min goes to driving, traffic and the counter. With Wow My Dog, the groom happens at your curb while you get on with your day: about 5 min of handoffs, so about 2 h 30 min back.

    Yelp

Gustavo was our grooming yesterday, and he was great at listening to our requests for DOOM. Though a little late due to traffic, the session itself was almost less than an hour, which was fantastic! DOOM had a bath, as well as the teeth, brushing and mouth spray, and we had specifications on what parts of his fur should be trimmed, which would just actually be around his feet, and Gustavo executed perfectly. We actually had doubts for this groomer, as a previous one, returned to our dog with red eyes, which was alarming since it wasn't communicated prior to the session ending, which for us was a really big deal. We gave them another shot, and Gustavo did really well. We had a slight language barrier issue, and Gustavo whipped out the Google translate, which I think was very proactive, and answered any questions that would help put us at ease. On top of that, he also sent a few pictures during the session of DOOM to put us more at ease, which I really appreciated. Safe to say, I will happily be rebooking for the next grooming session. Thanks, Gustavo!

My dog Toby is 16 years old, not super friendly and quite frail. I made an appointments for the basic package with just a bath and a bit of sanitary grooming. Marco drove right up, super friendly, and took a look at Toby to see what he was working with. Toby has a small growth on his upper eyelid that creates a lot of gunk around his eye. Marco did an incredible job cleaning it up. This is the best wash I've gotten in years! Toby looks beautiful! Thank you so much Marco!

After my second appointment, I am happy to say that Angel does a beautiful job on my dog. He follows my preferences so my boy looks exactly the way I like him to look. My dog is not so comfortable with a lot of people, but he is not afraid of Angel, so I feel confident he will be well taken care of. Super convenient--I wish I hadn't waited so long to try this company.

They turned out anxious smelly untrimmed dog into an anxious clean trimmed dog! We were concerned that our dog would be too scared to get a sanitary trim but it sounds like things went ok

Dog Life in Pleasanton

Real parks, real trails, and what they do to a coat. Notes from the groomer's side of the van.

Snapshot 01 · Parks

Cubby's and Muirwood, the two fenced runs

Pleasanton keeps two fenced dog parks: Cubby's Dog Park at 3200 W. Lagoon Road, on the Bernal property beside the Marilyn Murphy Kane Trail, and the dog exercise area inside Muirwood Community Park at 4701 Muirwood Drive. Inside the Muirwood fence a dog may be off leash as long as the person in charge keeps a leash in hand, keeps the dog coming back when called and brings no more than three dogs. Outside the fence and in every other city park the leash goes back on, six feet if it is fixed, thirty if it retracts.

Pleasanton Ridge above Foothill Road

Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park is 9,090 acres of oak and grassland on the west edge of town, entered from the Foothill Staging Area on Foothill Road, with no parking fee. The East Bay Regional Park District opens it at 8 a.m. and closes it between 5 and 8 p.m. depending on the month. Dogs stay on a six-foot leash within 200 feet of the staging area and in any picnic or developed spot, then may go off leash on the open ridge as long as they stay in sight and come when called; three dogs per walker without a permit. Closer to home, Augustin Bernal Park, the city's 237 acres at 8200 Golden Eagle Way, sits behind a guarded gate: residents show a Pleasanton ID and non-residents buy a weekly pass.

Snapshot 03 · Lake

Shadow Cliffs, but not the swim beach

Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area, at 2500 Stanley Boulevard, is 266 acres around an 80-acre former gravel quarry lake, with $5 parking per car. Pets are not allowed on the sand of the swim area, so a lake walk with the dog stays on the shoreline paths and picnic lawns, on leash, where the district requires it. Hours stretch from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. from May through Labor Day and shrink to 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from November through February. A dog that finds the water anyway comes home smelling of lake, which is a good afternoon to have the van parked outside.

Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area hours and rules

Groomer's note, coat care around Pleasanton: The Tri-Valley sits on the hot side of the hills, so Pleasanton summers run long and dry, and a double-coated dog here blows undercoat from April into October. The ridge trails add dust and foxtails that work into feathering and between the toes, and Shadow Cliffs adds lake water and sand. A warm-water bath, a full blow-out and a thorough brush-out clears the loose coat and the trail before it ends up on your floors. In the cold, foggy mornings of a valley winter the warm water matters just as much: the van carries its own, so the bath is warm from the first rinse to the last.

Pre-groom checklist · Pleasanton
Which parts of Pleasanton do you cover?

All of Pleasanton: Downtown and the older streets of Pleasanton Heights and Vintage Hills, the valley-floor neighborhoods of Val Vista, Del Prado, Birdland and Pleasanton Valley, Hacienda and Stoneridge out by the freeway, and the hillside and gated communities of Kottinger Ranch, Ruby Hill and Laguna Oaks. Dublin, San Ramon, Livermore and Sunol are on the same Tri-Valley routes, so a border street near Stanley Boulevard or Foothill Road is no problem. Share your full address when you book and we confirm it.

We live behind a gate in Ruby Hill. Can the van get in?

Yes. Ruby Hill, Golden Eagle, Castlewood and the smaller gated streets around Pleasanton all work the same way: leave the van's name at the kiosk or send us your guest code when you book, and the groomer texts you on the way so the gate is the easy part. Once inside, the van parks in your driveway, runs on its own water and power and makes no more noise than a parked car with the engine running. Nothing is plugged into your house and nothing is left behind on the driveway.

Our golden sheds through the whole Pleasanton summer. How often should we book?

Every four to six weeks from spring until the heat breaks in October, which in the Tri-Valley is a long season. Each visit includes a warm-water bath, a long blow-out and a full brush-out that lifts the loose undercoat before it reaches your floors, and the groomer checks ears, paws and feathering for the foxtails that come home from the ridge trails. A golden stays a golden: we trim feet, feathers and sanitary areas and never shave the coat for summer, because it insulates against the heat as well as the cold.

Do you groom cats in Pleasanton?

Yes, at every Pleasanton address. Cat grooming happens in the same quiet, self-contained van, one-on-one with no dogs around, at a flat $140 for a Cat Bath or $180 for a Cat Bath + Haircut. Long-haired cats that mat through the hot, dry valley summer do best on a regular rhythm. Tell us how your cat handles being handled when you book, and the groomer paces the visit to suit them.
