What you stop doing

Bath Day, Minus Everything You Hate About It

Folsom is a trail town with a driveway at every house. From Empire Ranch and Broadstone on the hill to the new streets of Folsom Ranch south of Highway 50, homes come with a two-car driveway, and the van fits in it. That is where the groom happens: your dog walks out the front door and back in about two hours later, instead of riding East Bidwell Street to a salon and waiting in a cage for a turn. The lake and the trails are the other reason people call. Fifty-odd miles of paved path, Lake Natoma and Folsom Lake put dust, lake water and dry-grass seeds into a coat all summer, and the van carries its own warm water, so the rinse is warm whether it is a foggy January morning or a hundred-degree July afternoon. The Historic District is the one place we plan the parking: the blocks off Sutter Street are short and fill on event days, so tell us where your own car goes when you book.

No stop-and-go on Highway 50 or East Bidwell Street.

We Groom. You Get Your Day.

The groom happens at your curb, so the drive, the drop-off and the pickup fall off your to-do list.

Salon day vs. Wow day

The four steps

Notes
  1. Step 1

    Book in Two Minutes

Pick a day, pick a time, tell us about your dog. Done. We confirm the day before.

  2. Step 2

    We Come to Your Door

Your groomer texts when they are on the way, then the van pulls up to your curb with its own warm water and power. No drive, no cages, no waiting room.

  3. Step 3

Your Dog Gets the Whole Van

One groomer, one dog, start to finish. No other dogs, no crate, no rushing. You get on with your day.

About 120 min · about 180 for large dogs
  4. Step 4

Back in Your Arms, Fresh and Dry

Clean coat, trimmed nails, clean ears, fully dry, and a tail that will not stop wagging. Both handoffs together take about five minutes.

In our example salon morning, about 2 h 30 min goes to driving, traffic and the counter. With Wow My Dog, the groom happens at your curb while you get on with your day: about 5 min of handoffs, so about 2 h 30 min back.

Once again, Jose did an unbelievably amazing job on my dog Sofie! He is so incredibly skilled at his work, and manages to get my very anxious and nervous girl comfortable enough to allow him to groom her. When he carried her back out to me, I was absolutely stunned at how good she looked. The prices are SO affordable as well! Never going anywhere else to get her groomed :) will add photos in a bit.

    Yelp

I've been using Wow! My Dog for probably over a year now to groom my two babies Willa & Ernie. I've used a few different groomers through them and they've all been really great. I was DEVASTATED to find out Angie will no longer be working with them as she was so beyond amazing while taking care of my dogs. I'll miss her SO much and wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors! Communication has always been great, and I always receive a heads up if they're running ahead or slightly behind of expected window time. My dogs also always look so cute after their grooming. Can't rave about this company enough!

Camela was amazing! For my very first visit she listen to and what look I was trying to get for my dogs face. She gave me her opinion which was very helpful for me. Teddy my dog took right to her and was so comfortable with her he wanted to sleep during his appointment. She is very personable and great with animals. I was really nervous for Teddy’s first appt with WOW. My dog but I could tell within a minute or two I was really going to love Camela. Thank you for making my Teddy look so great

Snapshot 01 · Parks

Two off-leash parks, both split by size

The City of Folsom runs two off-leash dog parks, and both keep small dogs and large dogs in separate areas. FIDO Field, at Cummings Family Park on Creekside Drive, opens daily at 7:30 a.m. until an hour after sunset and closes every Wednesday for maintenance; its three fenced areas rotate monthly, so one is always resting. Pawspector Park, at Prospector Park on Sparrow Drive in Folsom Ranch, opens at 7 a.m. Both ask for a current license tag, a leash in hand and the gate closed behind you. Lawn dust and a scuffed nail or two are what come home, and the bath takes care of both.

Snapshot 02 · Trails

Fifty miles of paved trail, six feet of leash

Folsom has more than 50 miles of Class I bike and pedestrian trails, and the city's trail rules are plain: dogs on a leash of six feet or less at all times, retractable leads included, walkers on the left facing the bikes, and pick up after your dog. The 2.5-mile Johnny Cash Trail climbs out of the Historic District past the prison walls, and the Folsom Plan Area south of the highway has another 30 miles planned as the new neighborhoods fill in. A long trail week leaves grit in the feathering and a dusty undercoat, which is what the warm-water bath is for.

Snapshot 03 · Lake

Dogs on the lake trails and in the water, not the swim beaches

Folsom Lake State Recreation Area wraps the north and east of town, and State Parks allows dogs on its trails and in the water, with exceptions: the swim areas at Beals Point, Granite Bay, Nimbus Flat and Black Miners Bar, and the lawn at Nimbus Flat. Day use is $12 a vehicle at Beals Point. Lake Natoma, below the dam, is held to 5 mph for boats, so it is the calm water for a dog that swims. Lake water dries into a stiff, musty coat by evening, which makes a swim day a good day to have the van booked.

Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, California State Parks

Groomer's note, coat care around Folsom: Folsom coats come home with the lake and the trail on them: dust from the paved paths, lake water that dries stiff and musty, and in the dry months the foxtail seed heads that grow along every creek and greenbelt and work into ears and toes. A warm-water bath and a full blow-out in your driveway lifts the grit and gets the undercoat dry to the skin, with a close comb of feet and ears every visit. Double coats can add a full de-shed when the summer blow starts, and doodle and long coats keep a regular trim so a wet weekend never meets a matted coat.

Pre-groom checklist · Folsom
Which parts of Folsom do you cover?

All of Folsom: the Historic District, Natoma Station, Lexington Hills, American River Canyon, Briggs Ranch, Broadstone, Empire Ranch, Prairie Oaks, Willow Hill, Los Cerros and the new streets of Folsom Ranch south of Highway 50. El Dorado Hills, Orangevale, Fair Oaks and Rancho Cordova sit on the same routes, so a border address is no problem. Travel is included in the groom price for every Folsom address; share the full address when you book and we confirm it.

My dog swims in Lake Natoma most weekends. How often should we groom?

Every four to six weeks is a good rhythm for a lake dog, with a bath-only visit in between when the smell says so. Lake water dries into a stiff coat over a damp undercoat that mats near the skin, retrievers and doodles most of all, and the fine dust of the levee trail settles on top. The groomer starts with a warm-water rinse all the way down to the skin, follows with a full blow-out and brush, and checks the ears, which hold lake water, on every visit. Between visits, a towel-dry at the car and a quick brush once the coat is dry keep the mats from starting.

We live in the Historic District near Sutter Street. Where does the van park?

In your driveway if you have one, or at the curb outside your house, where it stays for about 120 minutes. The blocks off Sutter Street are short and fill on event days, so tell us where your own car goes and whether your street has posted limits when you book, and we agree the spot before the day. The van brings everything, water and power included, so the space is all it needs; your groomer texts when they are on the way.

Can you groom my cat in Folsom?

Yes, at every Folsom address. Cat grooming happens in the same quiet, self-contained van, one-on-one with no dogs around: a Cat Bath is a flat $140 and a Cat Bath + Haircut a flat $180. Indoor cats here shed hardest once the heat arrives, so a long-haired cat does well on a regular schedule through summer. Tell us how your cat feels about being handled when you book, and the groomer takes it from there.
